STANDARD THREE: Cultural Leadership
Through the Wake Principal Leadership Program, I created a Culture Plan for a simulated school in which nine tenants, a schedule for implantation, and action steps for achievement. The tenants address the understanding of the positive role that a collaborative environment can play as stated in Standard 3a, development and use of vision, values and goals as stated in Standard 3b, plan for celebration and accomplishments as stated in Standard 3c, and a sense of efficacy and empowerment among the staff as stated in Standard 3d. |

A. Focus on Collaborative Work Environment: The school executive understands and acts on the understanding of the positive role that a collaborative environment can play in the school’s culture.

I created an action plan for the School Improvement goal of Olds Elementary School through the Wake Principal Leadership Program. My action steps incorporate the prioritization of high performing Professional Learning Communities in the analysis of school data and creating action steps. The plan also includes the collaboration of the School Improvement Plan team and all teachers to determine the value of current and future programs. As a result, the collaborative environment will positively shift the culture of the school, demonstrated by quality programs, continued productive dialogue and high student achievement. |
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wake County Public Schools transitioned to remote learning where the teachers are responsible for providing the instructional resources and extension activities to help students remain engaged in learning. As a Principal Resident, I supervised the Arts Department of Enloe Magnet High School and worked to support the respective Professional Learning Teams and promote continued collaboration and student growth. |

B. School Culture and Identity: The school executive develops and uses shared vision, values and goals to define the identity and culture of the school.
|
I created The 6 Elements of Diversity Policy and Professional Development Plan in course ELP 595 of the Wake Principal Leadership Program. The purpose of the plan is to provide policy around equity practices, and to provide a plan of professional development to effectively implement the policy. The Inviting Framework establishes shared vision, values, and goals while defining the identity and culture of the school. |
C. Acknowledges Failures; Celebrates Accomplishments and Rewards: The school executive acknowledges failures and celebrates accomplishments of the school in order to define the identity, culture and performance of the school.
I created an infographic to acknowledge the failures of Olds Elementary and provide action steps to improving the performance and culture of the school. Addressing the failures while providing a solution promotes a positive narrative regarding the identity, culture and performance of the school. |

As a Principal Resident of Enloe Magnet High School, I participated in the Administration Retreat before the school year began to establish the vision and plan the year. We used the Wake County protocol to plan celebrations and rewards. Our team evaluated the celebrations to provide equity in the diverse languages of appreciation of the staff members. |
I celebrated the staff and students on social media by regularly posting to celebrate the accomplishments of the school in order to define the identity, culture and performance of the school. |
|
D. Efficacy and Empowerment: The school executive develops a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff which influences the school’s identity, culture and performance.
The Wake Principal Leadership Program afforded me the opportunity to apply my learning of strategic teacher development t create a teacher-leader pipeline to my future school. I will develop a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff through the clarity in vision, building capacity in my teachers, and establishing accountability within school structures. My plan for teacher empowerment will positively influence the school's identity, culture, and performance. |

Enloe Magnet High School Leadership Team decided to make changes in the professional learning format which would empower teachers to learn through efficacy and leadership. As the Principal Resident, I co-facilitated the development of the teacher-created list of preferred learning. I then worked with the administrative team to coordinate and supervise the professional learning led by the teachers. We also facilitated the creation of Alternate PLT sessions, created by the teachers, in which they could engage in professional learning discussions across disciplines. |
